You won't believe this amazing video!
We (videographers Bill & Jean Castello) were heading back from Vero (Xmas with Mom) and had only half a day to view the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in Biloxi, MS and talk to some of the tragically affected people.
Even after watching CNN, we couldn't have imagined the the scene that awaited us. It was like some monster from a cheap Japanese horror flick had been unleashed on the town. A monster who'd crushed homes with a single step and used others as bowling balls.
See the big boat washed up two blocks from the water. See the tree trunk that goes through an apartment and out the window. See dozens of destroyed homes, some overturned, others crushed and some totally gone except the steps. A toy in the mud; clothes still hanging in tree limbs; pieces of peoples' lives scattered everywhere. This is a piece of history. A sad history.
Its been four months (at the time this was shot) since the hurricane, yet it seems that clean up has barely begun. Four months and people still waiting for the trailers promised by FEMA. People who were recently proud home owners, but are now as homeless as skid row winos. We interview a gentleman who'd lost his home - the house he was born and raised in, eighty years ago!
