How Many Microphones For a Wedding Video?
We've trained other wedding videographers and are in constant touch with hundreds through professional message forums, and it never fails to amaze me that by far the majority of them use only one or two microphones!
They'll argue that they aren't getting paid enough to invest thousands of dollars in more sound equipment and then spend many more hours in the editing studio with all those audio tracks. Perhaps they're right, but the simple truth is that, whether speech or music, you cannot get clear sound unless a microphone is within inches of the source of that sound. It's that simple. End of discussion!
We'll put a tiny wireless lavalier mic on the groom (it's close enough to get the bride too), the minister, and anyone else who speaks, sings or plays an instrument at your wedding. Otherwise, the sound from that source would sound "fuzzy" and "echoey".
We'll also tap into the soundboard with a Marantz Professional Digital Recorder. This means that every precaution to capture crisp, clear sound for your wedding video, is taken - even though it often means we use four to six microphones!
